Research into Action Films/Action Sub Genres

I am very into the idea of making an action film, however after speaking to Mr Earl about the thoughts on making a 'stereotypical action film', without having any sort of sub-genre, seems harder than I initally thought, as so many films have a sub-genre such as:
- action - comedy
- action - sci-fi
- action - superhero

What is the stereotypical action film?
A stereotypical action film covers a wide range of features, and even sub-genres include these. The features that're mainly included are male protagonist, fighting antagonists and there's always a female involved somewhere that the protagonist is in love with and mainly has sex with this female. Throughout the entire film, there are guns, violence and explosions that happen constantly during the storyline.

Successful action films - 2012
I have done some research into successful action films at the moment and there is a whole range of different action films/sub genre action films. I thought personally that Taken 2 and Skyfall were the most successful action films that I have seen so far this year, as they're both sequils and they're also full of suspence and violence. Skyfall on the other hand is extremely unique, however so are all of the Bond films in terms of there title sequence and there is also a change in storyline, making it more personal towards 'James Bond' allowing the audience to feel a sense of family-life and more of a connection towards the protagonist, Bond.

The most successful
There are many very successful films out at the moment, however the ones that I have picked out are:
 - Avengers - action/superhero
 - Dark Knight Rises  - action/superhero
 - The Hunger Games - action/sci-fi/ distopian/adventure
 - Skyfall - action

Action films with sub-genres
Currently, there aren't just many stereotypical action films that appear on their own, they mainly have a sub-genre attached to them.
Action films that show a stereotypical action film linked in with a sub-genre well, are:
- Hot Fuzz
- Bad Boys II

They both fit under the genre/sub-genre of action-comedy, giving the audience a sense of the stereotypical action features, however linking them with comedy, e.g. having old aged pensioners fighting crimes

The seriousness is then moved away from the action side of things and the comedy brings about a light-hearted feel to the film, allowing the audience to relax whilst watching.

Films that I have chosen to analyse

- Hot Fuzz - action-comedy
- Bad Boys II - action-comedy
- Skyfall - action (stereotypical)
- Taken 2 - action (stereotypical, however will a slight twist)
- Crank - action
The Hunger Games - action-sci-fi/adventure
