Screen Shots Supporting Research

This is an overview of what parts of the Dexter opening sequence I was analysing. The Dexter title immediately shows the blood ladened letters, connoting horror and disaster, leading the repeating blood imagery as the protagonist shaves and cuts himself, and the horror genre is still portrayed as horrific as the protagonist cuts into the 'blood' orange and the juice sprays everywhere like blood - linking to what may happen in the actual series. As he then continues to wrap dental floss tightly around his fingers, it prolonges the horrific imagery that is trying to be portrayed, highlighting that strangling could be taking place as the circulation in his fingers is starting to fade. The last image that is shown is a CU of the protagonists face, letting the audience who to watch out for in the series, giving it a nice end to the opening sequence.

This is an overview of the True Blood opening sequence, including the main images that I analysed for my research. The Dexter and True Blood title is extremely alike in terms of the horror genre as it both symbolises blood and a sinister atmosphere. The use of the naturalistic imagery used at the start of the opening sequence, highlights a stark contrast between the horror genre and the imagery that is being portrayed towards the audience, leaving them wanting to watch more. The use of the little boy with the blood-like substance smeared all around his mouth links to the horror genre, however it fits into the supernatural sub-genre. It also links in the fact that the program is about vampires, as they are stereotypically known to suck blood.

I hope that this have given you a clear overview of the how I analysed the opening sequences.
